Taking Chances is a track about mental health. I had a rough upbringing and suffered early on as a child from depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. Abuse at home, bullying at school and my severe eczema drove me into a black fog that was a constant in the first part of my life. Finding inner strength in myself and some outer force in the universe I got through this with self reflection, empathy, my curious and hopeful nature, psychology books, and different forms of therapy over the span of my adult life. This song is a dive back into this phase of my life and my inner struggle. I hope it will serve others with mental health suffering to relate and remind them that they are not alone in this; that life can be beautiful and that we can reach out for help to see the sun again.
